Question by eml: How did you babyproof your fireplace?
Do you have a hearth gate or did you just put padding around the hearth to protect your LO from the edges? My LO is 8 months and is just starting to crawl. We have a stone hearth that is about 1 inch above the carpet. We plan on using the fireplace a lot this winter and I was wondering if it was worth it to invest in a hearth gate or if we should just get rubber bumpers for the edges of the hearth. What did you do and how did it work for you? A hearth gate is about $ 180 and I was wondering if it was worth it.

When the time of year comes around and you feel that chill in the air it is time to get that fireplace going. A nice fire with friends and family is a great way to spend an evening. But if you have kids or pets you may be wondering how to keep them safe and keep them from getting burned. Using a fireplace safety gate is a good way to take these worries out of your mind.
There’s nothing more horrifying for a parent than seeing their little bundle of joy approaching an unprotected fireplace. That’s why it’s really important to make sure that your fireplace is fully protected and inaccessible for your child, no matter how fast they become.
