Not only are they convenient because they burn fuel and not wood, owners don’t have to worry about ashes and soot. Their main safety feature is their sealed combustion unit which reduces the threat of combustion gases spilling into the room. Direct vent fireplaces draw their combustion air from outside while venting to the same outside atmosphere. So they aren’t consuming the warm air inside the house.

Gas fireplaces run on either natural or propane gas and come with many attractive features such as gas logs that look just like real wood. You can chose from oak, pine, birch, fruitwood etc. Gas logs are made from ceramic and not only look real but also produce a great fire. Many gas fireplaces come with a remote control or are operated through the use of a wall switch which allows the owner to enjoy it as much or as little as he or she wants. Finally, gas fireplaces provide an alternative source of light and heat during a power failure.
For those people that have decided on buying a gas fireplace for their homes, here are a few things consider during the installation process. Before installing your gas fireplace you should consider the positioning of the framing and the ceiling joists in relation to the location of the fireplace. Since fuel fireplaces require zero clearance on the again and the facet, they’re best for carefully confined spaces. However there are different clearances which needs to be adhered to for the vent piping relying on the configuration. Gasoline fireplace ought to discuss with their instruction and installation manuals for more information on the specific clearances.

Fireplaces are the pure focal point of any room and are usually positioned in the heart of the room and needs to be considered before they’re installed. They should be put in by qualified technicians. With direct vent fuel fireplaces, technicians will be able to set up of the necessary vent piping for secure and correct usage. The unique vent process of permits them to be vented vertically via the roof or horizontally by an outdoor wall.

One other aesthetically pleasing function of a fuel fire is its glass doors. Glass doorways improve its natural beauty and permit friends and family to securely benefit from the view by lowering the probabilities of burns. They act as a barrier and keep wandering children and pets from coming into contact with the fuel logs contained in the fireplace. Installing glass doorways alone doesn’t all the time prevent burns. A gas fire door can heat up to greater than 200º F in about 6 minutes. (Kids’s Hospital Colorado) Homeowners ought to take particular care and use a barrier or gate for additional protection towards burns.

Most new fireplaces often include their very own glass doors. Nevertheless if you wish to set up glass doors to an present fireplace, you will most likely need to have them retrofitted. Installing a glass door requires becoming the door unit into the firebox opening and attaching it to the masonry. For fireboxes made of tough-textured material, like fieldstone, customary doors aren’t a good choice because they can’t overlap on the opening’s edge. For older fireplaces, you would possibly need to watch out throughout installation when drilling into the brick since it may have turn into brittle over the years. Certified technicians have the expertise and know-how one can safely and correctly set up glass doors to all forms of surfaces.

Question by eml: How did you babyproof your fireplace?
Do you have a hearth gate or did you just put padding around the hearth to protect your LO from the edges? My LO is 8 months and is just starting to crawl. We have a stone hearth that is about 1 inch above the carpet. We plan on using the fireplace a lot this winter and I was wondering if it was worth it to invest in a hearth gate or if we should just get rubber bumpers for the edges of the hearth. What did you do and how did it work for you? A hearth gate is about $ 180 and I was wondering if it was worth it.

Best answer:

Answer by Amanda
a fire guard is totally necessary!!! She will easily climb those edges!!
